Richardson is Peach Belt Player of the Year; John Haskins is Coach of the Year
AUGUSTA, Ga. – After a record-setting 18-10 season and first place finish in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) North Division, the Lady Braves dominated the conference awards ceremony.
UNC Pembroke’s Danielle Richardson was conference Player of the Year,
and first-year head coach John Haskins was Coach of the Year. Richardson
and teammate Lindsay Bartholf were selected to the PBC all-conference first
team, marking the first time ever that UNCP received two first team selections.
Richardson becomes the first UNCP player in history to be Player of the Year. The 6-2 senior from Jacksonville, Fla., was simply dominant during the season. She ranked third in scoring with 16.5 points per game and led the league in rebounding with 10.5 boards per game. She was second in the conference in blocked shots with a school-record 85.
Junior guard Lindsay Bartholf of Altoona, Pa., also had an outstanding season,
as one of the league’s premier shooters. She knocked down a school-record
71 three-pointers this season, that led the conference and placed her among
the nation’s leaders.
Bartholf topped the league in three-point accuracy at a school-record 44
percent from downtown. Bartholf was fifth in the PBC and second on the Lady
Braves squad in scoring at 14.5 points per game. She also led both the league
and team in minutes played with 1,006.
Bartholf was also named to the academic all-district team.
Haskins earned the coaching award after taking over the Lady Braves this season. His team was picked to finish dead last in the PBC, but finished 18-9 overall and 10-6 in the conference. Haskins coached the UNCP men’s team for 10 seasons and was named Coach of the Year in 2002.
