Tasha Oxendine is GPAC’s new marketing director
Tasha Oxendine has been hired as marketing director of the Givens Performing Arts Center (GPAC) at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
A 1995 UNCP graduate, Oxendine worked 12 years as North Carolina bureau chief for WBTW TV-13 of Florence, S.C., a CBS affiliate. She was a broadcasting major.
In her new position, Oxendine will promote GPAC’s four performing arts series, build partnerships with area businesses and community leaders and perform media and public relations. She reports to Patricia Fields, director of GPAC.
“We are thrilled to have Tasha on board with us at GPAC,” Fields said. “Her knowledge of the University, the community and the region will be a tremendous asset.”
“One of Tasha’s key responsibilities will be to solicit sponsors and group sales clients and the contacts that she has made through the years put her ahead of the game,” she said.
A Pembroke native, Oxendine remembers her first experience watching live performing arts at GPAC.
“When I was young, I came to GPAC for a performance of “Rumplestiltskin,” and the experience was memorable,” she said. “I want everybody – child and adult - to have that experience.”
GPAC’s annual series include Broadway and More, Distinguished Speakers, Nostalgia Concerts and On Stage for Youth. Oxendine said GPAC plays an important role in the community.
“Because it has 1,700 seats and because of the quality of its performances, this is a very important stage for southeatern North Carolina,” she said. “I want every person in Robeson and surrounding counties to know what great entertainment we have.”
As an alumnae, Oxendine has enjoyed watching the University grow.
“Every year, UNCP has more to offer its students and the community,” she said. “I am pround to be a graduate and an employee.”
