Chancellor Meadors
signs agreements with Korean university

UNC Pembroke Chancellor
Allen C. Meadors signed several exchange agreements April 2 with Woosong
University of Daejeon, South Korea.
Chancellor Meadors
and Woosong University President Kim signed an agreement on a "two-plus-two"
program. Students will study two years at Woosong, completing the requirements
for admission to UNCP, and then transfer to UNCP to continue their requirements
for a business degree.
Dr. Meadors also
met with 23 students who enrolled in the program this spring. Most are
expected to attend UNCP in the spring 2005 semester.
In addition to the
signing ceremony, Chancellor Meadors toured the east and west campuses
of Woosong. Dr. Meadors and Dr. Kim also discussed future administrator
and faculty exchange programs and summer school student exchange programs.

Chancellor Meadors
left for Beijing on April 4. There, he signed an agreement along with
Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, N.C., and the North China
Institute of Science and Technology.
Woosong's President
Kim visited UNCP in September 2003. Woosong University was founded in
1995 as a force for educational innovation in South Korea. It has a
current enrollment of 5,487, including 433 students studying abroad

also visited U.S. Embassy in the Chinese capital city to meet with three
representatives from Chinese universities to discuss different programs
and projects.

A state-supported
school, North China Institute of Science and Technology is located a
short drive from Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The institute was founded
in 1984 and has grown very quickly to an enrollment of 9,000 with 650
professors on its faculty.
North China Institute
offers bachelor and associate degrees in business management, computer
science, English and engineering. It also offers certificate programs
in mining safety.
