Freshman's Design Goes on a T-shirt

A project for art class turned out so well it is now on sale at the UNCP Bookstore.

Freshman art student Jeremy Adams' project from his "Elements of Design" class has been silk-screened onto a t-shirt that is available at the campus Bookstore for $12.95.

"My classmates said they really liked it and suggested I take it to the Bookstore to be put on a t-shirt," Adams said. "So, I did."

Bookstore Manger Karen Swiney liked it too and got t-shirts printed in time for Spring Semester. The design is now prominently featured in the store's extensive apparel department.

"The design contains a lot campus landmarks, so I thought it would sell," Swiney said. "We started with a run of 72."

The design incorporates elements of Old Main, the Bell Tower and Givens Performing Arts Center. Jeremy received some of his training at Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville.

"Twelve of my classmates are here too," Adams said. "Twelve out of 69 Massey Hill graduates is pretty amazing. Our school counselor graduated from UNCP."

Jeremy may be a fresh new face on campus, but he has other connections to UNCP. He is the son of Dr. Grady and Joyce Adams, who are school administrators with the Cumberland County Schools.

Grady is a 1971 UNCP grad and assistant principal and athletic director at Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville. Joyce has been named principal at the new Gray's Creek High School.
