UNC Pembroke names Burnette Vice Chancellor for University and Community Relations

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke has appointed Dr. Glen G. Burnette Jr. to the post of vice chancellor for the Office of University and Community Relations.

Dr. Burnette, formerly vice chancellor for the Office of Advancement, will continue to oversee that division while beginning his new responsibilities in University and Community Relations. A nationwide search for his successor is underway.

Chancellor Allen C. Meadors said, "Dr. Burnette's long leadership tenure at UNC Pembroke is a testament to his abilities as an administrator and public servant. His leadership skills, along with his knowledge, dedication and commitment to both UNC Pembroke and our service region, make him the right choice for this important position."

A new position at UNC Pembroke, the vice chancellor for University and Community Relations is responsible for the planning and organization of the university's internal relations and public affairs programs, including media relations, publications, community relations, legislative and government affairs, crisis communications and the public relations program. The vice chancellor will also work with members of the university's Board of Trustees, the boards of affiliated foundations and organizations and with leadership representatives in the community and surrounding area.

"I will dedicate myself to empowering our constituents and promoting ownership in the university within our region," Dr. Burnette said. "I am looking forward to continuing my work with the chancellor, faculty, staff, students and community to maintain and advance the university's position of excellence in higher education."

Chancellor Meadors named Dr. Burnette, who has been employed with UNC Pembroke for approximately 15 years. He served as director of Alumni Relations for 10 years and most recently served as vice chancellor for Advancement for four years. Under Dr. Burnette's leadership, the office raised more funds than ever before in the university's history and established a record number of endowed scholarships.

Dr. Burnette received his undergraduate degree and his Master of Arts in Education from UNC Pembroke. He holds a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University.
