win awards

UNC Pembroke art
students won top awards recently for their design work in two prestigious
contests. Art Professor John Labadie was honored for his contribution
to the profession.
At "EM Fest,"
the Carolinas' premier electronic media festival, UNCP senior Bridgette
Cannon won for "best digital image manipulation." Winners
were selected from over 130 entries from across North Carolina and South
Carolina.
EM Fest is an electronic
media awards competition open to all college students from North Carolina
and South Carolina. The goal of EM Fest is to spotlight the top electronic
media design students and academic programs in the Carolinas.
At the 2002 American
Advertising Association ADDY, sponsored by the Professional Ad Club
East (PACE) in Greenville, N.C., six UNCP students won awards. The winners
are: Edwin Harris IV, Bridgette Cannon, Genea Pittman, Alika Thompson,
Daniel Reyes and Rafael Parra Roman.
That evening PACE
held its annual awards ceremony honoring both advertising professionals
and college & university students involved in the design and advertising
arts. Six UNC-Pembroke students took home awards this year.
Additionally, the
PACE group presented special awards for "service to the profession"
to two regional university professors for" ... promoting excellence
in university education in the design and advertising arts." East
Carolina University School of Art Associate Professor Craig Malmrose
and University of North Carolina at Pembroke Department of Art Associate
Professor Dr. John Antoine Labadie were the recipients of these awards.
