Stratil Wins Merit Award in Art Exhibition
Sandy
Stratil won a merit award in the 22nd Annual July National Exhibition
in Southport, N.C.
Judged by Polly
Hammett, and Wenying Xiong, the show features 135 works by artists from
24 states. It is at Franklin Square Gallery.
Both of her entries
were juried into the exhibition. The painting that won the merit award
was "Family Matters: Walter, Jr." from her transfer collage
series. This painting, which depicts events from the life of her husband's
uncle, is done in acrylic, pencil and phototransfers.
Sandy Stratil is
director of the College Opportunity Program at The
University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she also teaches art.
She lives in Lumberton.
