Brandon Davis
is New SGA President for UNCP
Thomasville,
N.C., native Brandon Davis has been elected president of the Student
Government Association (SGA) of The University of North Carolina
at Pembroke.
Among his new duties,
Mr. Davis will represent the students on the Board of Trustees. He will
also be a speaker at UNCP's ceremonial events, including Commencement
and Convocation.
Mr. Davis has been
active in a variety of student activities at the university. He has
been a class representative on the SGA for the past three years, a wrestler
and president of the African American Student Association. He is a Student
Ambassador with the Office of Admissions, sings in the Voices of Serenity
gospel choir and is a Peer Assistance Leader.
"The most rewarding
thing about my work in student government is representing student interests
on faculty committees," he said. "It's great when action is
taken that you have initiated on behalf of the students."
A rising senior,
Mr. Davis is a biology major with a career goal of becoming a physical
therapist. He is a member of the Health Careers Opportunities Program,
a federally funded program that assists students into health careers.
With SGA he chaired
the Committee on Student Issues and was treasurer last year. His goal
for student government next year is to improve communications between
students and administration.
"The most important
part of my platform is to have monthly or bi-monthly student forums
where administration can answer questions and students can get to know
administrators," Mr. Davis said.
