It's "Bo time" in Pembroke

The highly anticipated Bojangles had their grand opening on March 31.
The new restaurant located at 901 W. Third St. opened at 5 a.m. and had many free giveaways throughout the day.
Nick Tambura, a UNCP senior, received the first prize of $100 gift card, a Bojangles lawn chair and a large box of food for being the first customer.
Marketing Director Tony Birch said that Tambura rode his bike to the Bojangles and arrived at 4:30 a.m. and waited until they opened.
Other giveaways included a free Legendary Iced Tea with a purchase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a free kids meal with any purchase from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and a coupon was given out for a ham, steak or sausage biscuit from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There was also a drawing for a chance to win free breakfast at Bojangles for an entire year.
Many students, faculty, staff and Pembroke citizens had good things to say about the service and food at the Bojangles.
A customer that works at a local restaurant said that she thinks it will definitely bring great revenue to Pembroke and won’t make people have to drive to Lumberton.
“We’re thankful to have Bojangles come to Pembroke,” said Janet Graham, a librarian at UNCP.
Graham said that it gives more variety to the town and it will be good for the university.
Mary Brayboy, a Pembroke native, said that she doesn’t really go to grand openings but she was very excited about this one.
“I’m glad to see this chicken place,” she said.
Taylor Rogers, a junior, said that she was surprised at how quickly she got her food. She said she was worried when she saw the crowd but the line moved relatively fast and she was able to sit and eat.
“I would definitely come between classes,” she said.
Her friend Deja Dykes said that she really loves the design of the restaurant. She said it was very modern and she thinks it will appeal to other students.
Unit Director Corey Jones said that they had a couple of “bumps” but he’s very excited about the outcome so far.
Jones said that they have three salary managers, four hourly managers and around 80 crew members.
“About 70 to 75 percent of those are students,” he said.
Brittany Harrington, a crew member and UNCP student, said that she applied online for the job.
She said they had interviews at the local Holiday Inn for potential crew members.
When she was hired for the job, she began her training at the Bojangles in Raeford, which is around 20 miles outside of Pembroke.
Harrington said that she enjoys working there so far and she looks forward to the work.
Area Director Jeff Kelly said that they chose this location because it’s “Bojangles country” and it’s near the college, which is great for students. He said it’s a very good location to have a Bojangles.
He said he’s really excited about being in the area and going to some of the games on campus.
This Bojangles will be the third location in Robeson County to open.
The first two being Laurinburg and the other just recently built in Lumberton across from Robeson Community College.
The construction began in December of 2014 and was estimated to be completed on March 15.
It was completed around that time frame.
