The UNCP wrestling team earned a home victory over Limestone in their last regular season meet on Feb. 18.

The team honored their six seniors before the match.

Those six were Reggie Allen, Chris Giddens, Daniel Ownbey, Juan Stimpson, Brach Walker and Terrance Zaleski.

“Overall, I’m very happy for all six of our seniors.” Coach Othello Johnson said. “Those guys have done a great job for the program, and it’s good to send them out with a victory,”.

The 26-9 win moves the all-time series record to 7-4 in favor of the Black and Gold.

Through the first four matches, the two teams traded decision wins. Josh Brown and Ownbey picked up wins for UNCP in the 125-pound class and the 141-pound class respectively.

Cole Murray and Hayden Fry lost their matches in the 133 and 149-pound divisions.

With the meet tied at six, the Braves ran off four straight wins to take control of the lead and then put it out of reach. Allen started it off with a decision win over Richie Manning in the 157-pound class.

Stimpson followed that with a decision win of his own over Jimmy Sandlin at 165 pounds.

Limestone was still easily in striking distance after those two matches though.

UNCP held a six point lead which could have been tied with a pin by Limestone in the next match.

But Zaleski continued to push that lead by earning a technical fall victory over Matthew Ostermiller at 174 pounds.

Mikey Thomas sealed the victory for the Black and Gold with his pin of David Kieta at 184 pounds. The teams split the last two matches as Limestone got the win in the 197-pouund match and UNCP took the 285-pound match.

Justin Tribble won at 197 and Giddens came out victorious at 285.

UNCP will be hosting the NCAA Midwest Super Regional on Feb. 27 and 28.
