UNCP women’s soccer suffered a hard loss to visiting team Clayton State on Sept. 27 on Varsity Grounds.

The first 15 minutes of the game were filled with shots by both teams.

Clayton State started aggressively taking six of the first seven shots in the first half.

Rae-Shawna Campbell had a couple of good quality shots that just didn’t make it to the back of the net.

The game was really back and forth for the first 45 minutes of the game, and then Clayton State took over.

The Braves held on until the second half where Clayton State busted out three goals to close the game 3-0.

The first goal was scored in the 47th minute by Maria Marti Bartis.

The second goal was scored just six minutes later by Lucy Cunningham and the final goal was scored in the 79th minute by Rachael Schmidt.

The Lakers had most of the possession in the second half and had eight shots on goal compared to the Lady Braves four.

This game ended the Black and Gold’s three game winning streak (5-2-1, 1-1-0 PBC).

The Lakers are now at a seven game winning streak and are sitting with a perfect record in PBC play (8-1-0, 3-0-0 PBC).

Courtney Crump had a team high four shots for UNCP, while goalkeeper Janae Aiken logged five saves.

Rachael Schmidt, Lucy Cunningham and Marti Bartis scored the three goals for Clayton State.
