Paintball team is being planned

Easton Auman, a sophomore criminal justice major, has proposed to the Recreation Office forming a paintball team.

The team would be “a speedball team/club, not a woods ball club,” according to Auman. He described a woods ball club as “a weekend playing paintball in the woods.”

“I did lots of research on how to configure a team at the college level,” Auman said.

He designed and posted flyers in the athletic facilities and other buildings on campus in hopes of recruiting members for the fall semester.

There are “currently a dozen members really interested in joining the team,” Auman said.

Paintball equipment

Students, faculty and staff would pay a $50 membership fee to participate. They also would provide their own equipment. The fee would cover a long sleeve paintball shirt and an off-campus storage unit where members' equipment would be stored.

"The club will look for fundraising ideas in order to make money for our club,” Auman said.

“The proper equipment can be purchased online through one of my favorite websites, called ansgear.com,” Auman said. It is "an online discount paintball store where speedball equipment can be purchased."

"Also there is a paintball field in Fayetteville called Black Ops Paintball that sells paintball gear," he said. "But I most recommend the online stores for they are cheaper than retail shops.”

Playing at Fayetteville

Auman said club meetings would be held on campus, but the team would “practice and play in Fayetteville” at Black Ops Paintball, which has a speedball field for practicing.

The team would be part of the National Collegiate Paintball Association (NCPA). It would "play against other colleges in tournaments,” he said.

“This organization is open to anyone interested that works or attends UNCP,” Auman said.

Once an official faculty adviser has been selected, Auman will will work to have the club recognized as an official campus team.

“My goal is for the paintball team is to go to nationals,” Auman said. The national-level competition is in Lakeland, Florida.
