The UNCP men’s soccer team faced their region-rivals Wingate University Sept. 10 at Varsity Grounds.
The Black and Gold engaged in a hard fought game with lots of fouls.
There were a combined 37 fouls.
The Braves came out of the first half with a tie. Then, Wingate managed to pull out two goals in the second half to take home the win 2-0.
This game marked the Braves second consecutive loss.
The Bulldogs outshot the Braves 16-8 and had most of the possession in both halves.
Rodrigo Ugalde of Wingate slid the ball into the back of the net 10 minutes into the half off a cross from Charlie Machell.
The first goal gave Wingate some extra adrenaline, and after only 10 more minutes Machell scored the final goal for the Bulldogs. Gui Peron made the assist.
Red shirt UNCP freshman keeper Kenneth Perkinson toughed out the full 90 minutes and saved four of the six shots on goal.
Goal keeper Stephen Banick for Wingate came out with a shutout saving the only two shots taken on goal.
