Baseball takes 2-of-3 from Patriots

The UNCP baseball team hosted Francis Marion on the weekend of April 10-12 in a three-game PBC matchup.
After dropping the first game of the series, the Braves rebounded by winning the last two games.
In the first game of the series the offenses for both teams were on fire. Francis Marion got 19 hits and the Braves recorded 20.
The Patriots outscored the Black and Gold 17-12.
UNCP had four pitchers pitch throughout the game. Wes Helsabeck, Logan Cook and Austin Hill particularly struggled as they allowed a total of 17 runs.
The Braves got off to a fast start in the first two innings of the game. In the first Collins Cuthrell hit a two-run home run and Billy Vaughn hit a single that scored two.
The Black and Gold added two more runs in the second.
In the third and fourth innings, Francis Marion made a comeback by scoring four runs in each inning. UNCP scored one run in the fourth inning off a single from Nolan Pierce.
Going into the eighth inning the Patriots had a 12-10 lead over the Braves.
In the top of the inning the Black and Gold allowed the Patriots to score five more runs. The game ended 17-12 after the Braves failed to make a comeback.
The second game of the series proved to be a tight 6-5 contest. The Black and Gold were able to hold on to take the victory.
After allowing Francis Marion to score two runs in the top of the first inning, they bounced back with one score of their own. Cuthrell hit a solo home run to left centerfield.
The majority of the Braves runs came in the bottom of the third inning.
The Black and Gold scored five runs to take a 6-2 lead over the patriots.
Vaughn hit a solo homerun, Zade Denton hit a three-run home run, and Vaughn hit a single later in the inning that scored another run.
With the solid pitching from Andy Sullivan and Alex Britt the Braves were able to hold on to win the game 6-5 to even out the three-game series.
Unlike the previous two games, which were competitive, the third was a blowout victory for the Braves.
UNCP got on the board early by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning.
In the second they added another four runs to take a 12-2 lead over Francis Marion.
The Braves added nine more runs and allowed only six more to finish the game.
The 21-8 win over Francis Marion gave the Braves the victory in the three game PBC matchup.
