Henry Berry Lowrie

Henry Berry Lowrie (1844-1872?) was the leader of a famed outlaw band during the Civil War. They fought the white establishment to avenge the murders of Lowrie's father and brother. HBL gave the Indian people pride in their race and hope for the future. He disappeared in the swamps of the Lumbee river in 1872.

This photograph is reported to be Henry Berry Lowrie.
