The Native American-serving Nontribal Institutions (NASNTI) program operated by the U.S. Department of Education provides grants to eligible institutions of higher education to enable them to improve their academic quality, increase their self sufficiency and strengthen their capacity to serve students.
In October 2008, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke was awarded two years of grant funding to develop a Terminal Degree Program and Second Year Student Program. The Terminal Degree Program will provide support for faculty members without a terminal degree to pursue a terminal degree from an accredited institution. Eligible faculty members will be able to receive financial support as well as release time.
The Second Year Student Program, known as “Sophomore Connection” will focus on providing enhanced services to our students in their second year at UNCP. Special emphasis will be placed on academic advising, tutoring and building a sense of community among this student population.
For more information about these programs, call 910.522.5708, or email Mrs. Darcy Hayes, Project Coordinator at darcy.hayes@uncp.edu.
