Dr. gary wright

Dr. Gary K. Wright is the Choir Director at UNCP and Coordinator of Music Education. He directs the Pembroke Singers and teaches various music education classes. Dr. Wright received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Master of Arts in Music History and a Doctor of Education in Music Education (1996) all from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.

Dr. Wright taught high school choirs for 24 years before joining UNCP in 1996. He has directed over 40 musicals and 30 honor choirs. Since his arrival at UNCP, the Pembroke Singers have been invited to perform at the NCMEA Conference twice (1998, 2005) and at the NC ACDA Fall Conference (2003). He is a regular adjudicator for music festivals on the East Coast. Choirs under his direction have toured Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia, St. Thomas, and most recently, Scotland. In May of 2006, the Pembroke Singers were invited to perform at the new Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian where they presented a program of primarily Native American Choral Music.
