ms. lindsay leach

Lindsay Leach became the Adjunct Professor of Flute at UNC Pembroke faculty in the spring of 2007 and joined the faculty of Methodist University shortly thereafter. She also currently holds the Second Flute and Piccolo position in the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in the Sandhills area of North Carolina where she is currently the Director of Orchestras and IB/AP Music Theory teacher at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ms. Leach earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance as well as her Master of Music degree in Piccolo Performance from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland where she studied with Laurie Sokoloff. She was the first person from Peabody to graduate in the Piccolo Performance program and was also awarded 2nd prize in the conservatory’s Yale Gordon Concerto Competition performing the Liebermann Piccolo Concerto. After graduating from Peabody with Mu Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Omicron Delta Kappa, she went on to further flute performance studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, United Kingdom.

At the Royal Academy, Ms. Leach studied modern flute with International Soloist Clare Southworth, early flutes with Baroque Soloist Lisa Beznosiuk, and piccolo with Patricia Morris of the BBC Orchestra in Manchester. Upon completing her Post-Graduate Performance Diploma as well as the LRAM Teaching Certificate from the Royal Academy, she was invited on a solo concert tour of England with her accompanist Phil Richardson as well as an orchestral tour as Principal Flute of the Amadeus Orchestra. She finished her European studies in France at the Académie International d’Ete de Nice with Philippe Bernold, Principal Flute of the Lyon Opera. Other major teachers include Robert Langevin and Mark Sparks.

In addition to her symphony work, Ms. Leach is a published writer, having articles in both the Dalcroze Journal of America and the Pittsburgh Flute Club Magazine. Ms. Leach has performed on modern flute, piccolo, and baroque flute at the National Flute Association’s annual conventions as well as being a featured guest artist for other regional flute societies. Her most recent appearances include the 2007 Flute Society Mid-South Young Artist Competition, the 2006 Byron Hester and Myrna Brown Solo Flute Competitions, and the 2005 Jean-Pierre Rampal International Flute Competition. Additionally, Ms. Leach has been featured as a soloist on the 2005 summer concert series at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice, France, the Orford Arts Center 2006 Summer Concert Series in Orford, Canada, and the 2007 Aspen Music Festival Spotlight Recital Series in Aspen, Colorado.
