I. Course Contact:
Monday, Wednesday 2:30-3:50 Music Annex
II. Instructional Materials:
A. Music will be provided by the university.
B. Students are required to have a music lyre and flip-folder.
III. Course Description:
This course is designed to support the UNCP basketball teams, and to provide
entertainment during basketball games.
IV. Student Responsibility and Attendance:
The success of this ensemble is based upon the attendance of all of its
members. Therefore no unexcused absences will be allowed. If you cannot
make an event or rehearsal you must contact Mr. Wiggins PRIOR to the event.
In addition it is YOUR responsibility to make sure there is a substitute
on your instrument at the event, with the proper uniform and ALL music
ready to go. It is the students responsibility to properly pay their substitute
for the performance. Three tardies will also constitute an unexcused absence.
Failure to follow this policy will result in a reduction of the stipend
(at $45 a performance) and grade (1/2 letter per absence), and in the
event of excessive cases removal from the ensemble with a loss of stipend.
In addition, proper etiquette must be followed at all times, meaning no
profanity, smoking, obscene gestures etc. while in the uniform of the
UNCP band program, or while representing the University. The band's role
at games is to entertain and inspire the teams. To that end the members
of the band will stand in their assigned seating area and cheer throughout
the game in support of UNCP athletes.
V. Grading Criteria:
Attendance and preparation will be considered when determining the final
grade
for this course. These criteria will also be used to determine the continuation
of a student’s stipend for performing in the ensemble, as well as
determining the ensemble members who make any trips the band takes. Preparation
will be judged by hearing all students play individually during rehearsals.
VI. Uniform:
The uniform for the UNCP basketball band will be the basketball band shirt,
and khaki pants. Hats in good taste, and which promote UNCP are allowed.

IX. Rehearsal Etiquette
The ability to rehearse quickly and efficiently is a collective effort. Therefore the following rules will be in effect for all rehearsals. Failure to abide by these rules may result in your dismissal from rehearsal and possibly the ensemble.
1. Rehearsals begin promptly at 2:30. Rehearsals will end at 3:50, or sooner if circumstances allow. If you are not in the set-up at this time you are considered tardy. You are also to wait outside of the set-up until an instructor informs you that you may take your place in the ensemble.
2. There is to be no talking during rehearsals. If you have a question raise your hand to ask it, or wait until after the rehearsal is over to address it.
3. All students should have their notebook for drill, flipfolder for music, a pencil and a tuner (wind players) with them at all rehearsals.
4. Call time for all performances will be 45 minutes before tip-off time. If you are not seated in the stands with your instrument out and ready to go you are considered tardy.
X. Acknowledgement
My signature bellows signifies that I have read, understand, and agree
to abide by the policies set forth in this syllabus. I acknowledge that
failure on my part to do so can result in the reduction of my stipend
or grade, and my dismissal from the band.
