pep band faq's

How much time does the basketball band take?

* We rehearse on Monday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Games per week vary - usually around 2 games per week. We meet at the gymnasium one hour before each game.

What are the "perks" for being in the band?

* Since we meet only one hour before tip-off, you save all that time you would spend waiting for the gates to open to get a seat - AND your seats are reserved courtside.
* Travel with the team to Peach Belt and NCAA tournaments (maximum 30 people - determined by seniority, part, and ability).
* New uniform provided by UNCP Athletics
*All members of the band receive a $250 stipend for performing . These stipends are granted by audition only.

Is there a requirement for playing in a concert band in the spring semester to be in the basketball band?

* No - members of the Spirit Band are not required to audition for a spring concert group, but it is highly encouraged. We do realize that there are sometimes conflicts that will prevent someone from participating in a concert group.

If I have a conflict, is it possible to miss a game?

* Conflicts do occur during the basketball season. Valid conflicts MUST be approved by Mr. Spitzer in advance. You MUST keep up with your classes - missing a gig to do homework is not allowed - pull an all-nighter if you have to - I do it all the time :)
