Pembroke Singers

Pembroke Singers

Pembroke Singers is the most select choir at UNCP. The Pembroke Singers were formed in 1996 with 12 singers. Since then, they have grown to 24 of the best that UNCP can produce. Under the direction of Dr. Gary Wright, the Singers have three times performed at state conventions of music educators (NCMENC in 1998, NCACDA in 2003, NCMENC in 2005, and 2009), have traveled to St. Thomas and performed at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. The choir regularly commissions music by new composers. Recent commission have been by Owen Goldsmith, Paul Bassler and Eric Ewazen.

The choir is open by audition and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 in the choir room. Audition materials for Pembroke Singers are linked here. You should come to the first rehearsal with the music learned.

For further information, call Dr. Gary Wright at 910.521.6290, or by email at gary.wright@uncp.edu.
