Pembroke Singers

 

Pembroke Singers is the most select choir at UNCP. The Pembroke Singers were formed in 1996 with 12 singers. Since then, they have grown to 24 of the best that UNCP can produce. Under the direction of Dr. Gary Wright, the Singers have three times performed at state conventions of music educators (NCMENC in 1998, NCACDA in 2003, NCMENC in 2005), have traveled to St. Thomas and performed at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. The choir regularly commissions music by new composers. Recent commission have been by Owen Goldsmith, Paul Bassler and Eric Ewazen.

The choir is open by audition and meets MWF AT 11:30in the choir room.

The next concert of the Pembroke Singers is set for Thursday, February 28, 2008 in the Moore Hall Auditorium. Admission is free and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Called "Made in America," the concert features compositions from the United States. Also appearing on this concert will be the UNCP Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Jaeyoon Kim.
