UNCP HONOR CHOIR

The UNCP Choirs will host our second HONOR CHOIR on Saturday, March 14, 2009. The performance will be held on the UNCP campus at the beautiful, 1700 seat Givens Performning Arts Center. Our clinician is Dr. Paul Head, Associate Professor of Music and Department Chair at the University of Delaware. His choirs have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe and have received high acclaim for their musical artistry. He has studied conducting with Charlene Archibeque, Allen Crowell, Joseph Flummerfelt, and Dennis Shrock. His degrees are from San Jose State University (CA), Westminster Choir College, and Oklahoma. Dr. Head is a well-known clinician, adjudicator, and director of honor choirs. This year, Dr. Head will serve as a guest conductor and/or adjudicator in California, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Mississippi, and North Carolina. He is also the co-author of "Case Studies in Music Education," a widely-used text in college methods classes.

This Honor Choir is open to high school singers and their directors. The unique feature of the Honor Choir is the participation of the high school directors. The choir will consist of the UNCP Concert Choir (under the direction of Dr. Jaeyoon Kim), the UNC Pembroke Singers (under the direction of Dr. Gary Wright), the selected high school choral musicians AND the high school choir directors themselves!

We have just begun accepting applications for the Honor Choir. Contact Gary Wright for further information. There is no cost to the directors, school or students. Students and directors will receive a T-shirt, and directors will also receive a sight-reading packet. The deadline for registration is February 15, 2009.
