Drum majors act as assistants to the director, & will run physical warm-ups & full band musical warm-ups.  They should be the role-models for all members for musicianship, visual performance, & conduct.  Drum majors will be expected to have the scores memorized prior to band camp, & will conduct full band rehearsals beginning at camp.  They will trade quarters conducting stand tunes at all football games.  During sectionals, drum majors should circulate to all sections to provide schedule information, materials, & motivation to complete their task.  This position will require extra hours during the summer, & before/after rehearsals & performances.

The Student Administrative Assistant is responsible for taking attendance at all rehearsals & performances, keeping track of excused absences, & stipend concerns due to attendance.  This position will work closely with Meggan Hollis to ensure all administrative needs are addressed.

Captains are responsible for running warm-ups with their respective full sections (woodwind, brass, percussion, guard) at the end of sectionals (“squad time”).  Woodwind & brass captains will address tone development, style, intonation, & balance within the full sections.  Captains will address section leaders with any individual issues that arise, & will be responsible for bringing major issues to the attention of staff when appropriate.
The visual captain will address concerns in the drill from the field to staff (director), & will run marching basics.  The goal of the visual captain is to unify the marching style of all members.

Section leaders are responsible for their individual sections (piccolo, trumpet, tuba, etc.).  They should be sure each member of their section has music & drill coordinate sheets at all rehearsals.  They will run individual sectionals to ensure that each member has their music memorized & know marching basics & drill sets as learned.  Section leaders must have a way to contact everyone in their section in case of lateness or no-shows at rehearsals and/or performances, & in case there are important last-minute changes to the schedule.

Field managers are responsible for maintenance of the practice field – painting, field markers, etc. – and for bringing water/Gatorade to the field.  Field painters must be able to get to the field early, before rehearsal, on painting days.  Those bringing water must have a reliable vehicle & be able to travel to the cafeteria for ice before rehearsal.  BRINGING WATER TO THE FIELD IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO BE LATE TO EVERY REHEARSAL!!!!  If you cannot fulfill the duties required & make it to rehearsal on time, you need to relinquish the position to someone who can.

Equipment managers are responsible for making sure all equipment needed for their sections is loaded for away games/exhibition performances.  This position will require extra time before/after rehearsals, & Monday mornings after trips.  Equipment managers should ensure that all equipment is in good working order, & bring it to the staff’s attention if repairs/replacements are needed.

Uniform managers are responsible for making sure all uniforms are returned to West Hall after every performance & hung up correctly.  This position will require staying late after performances.  In some cases, this position may require extra time to assist parents with putting uniforms back together after being washed.

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for updating the marching band’s Facebook page & website (when needed).
