Drum Major Auditions

Saturday, April 5. 9:00 am – Noon.
                                              

  • Must be an individual who has marched for at least one season prior in the “Spirit of the Carolinas” Marching Band.
  • Prior to the Audition:
    • Two Page essay on your concept of the responsibilities of an effective collegiate drum major, and the qualities you posses that make you a good candidate for the job.  Due to Mr. Spitzer no later than Tuesday, April 1st.
  • Audition:
    • Comfortable, yet clean and professional attire. No distracting clothing or jewelry, or t-shirts with messages, other than perhaps Pembroke spirit wear.
    • Vocal Commands-
    • Marching Basics-
    • Conducting Basic Patterns
    • Conducting Score and Recording, Available from Mr. Spitzer

On Friday, March 28th.

    • Interview Q & A. Dialogue with our panel of judges.

 
*Note- Pick up a sheet detailing what vocal commands, marching basics, and basic conducting patterns are required from Mr. Spitzer at your leisure.  They will be available in Moore Hall 128
By Friday, March 14th.

 

Student Leadership Elections

  • The on field leaders will be appointed by the Director and Assistant Directors and unit instructors, with input from the elected officers, and announced at a later date.  

These will include-          Percussion Section Leader
                                     High Woodwind Section Leader
                                     Low Woodwind Section Leader
                                     High Brass Section Leader
                                     Low Brass Section Leader
                                     Visual Performance Section Leader


Balloting for the following offices will take place March 24-28, 2008.

  • Student Leaders determined by the balloting will include:

 Marching Band President
 Marching Band Vice-President
 Marching Band Secretary
 Rookie Representative, to be selected during band camp
            Any student participating in marching band who has participated in the UNCP “Spirit of the Carolinas” Marching Band (including guard), for at least one season, is eligible to run for one of the elected positions.
               
To run for an elected position you must fill out an application available from Mr. Spitzer’s office, 128 Moore Hall.  You must also secure the signature of three other past or present marching band members who support your candidacy for the office.  The signatures will be on the form mentioned above, and turned in to Mr. Spitzer by March 21.  If your form and signatures are late, your name will not appear on the ballot.

Each of the offices above will be responsible for the obvious day to day responsibilities inferred by the title of the office. In addition you will be responsible for relaying attitudes and suggestions from the ensemble to the appropriate staff members, and motivating the ensemble toward the highest level of excellence possible. You will also be called upon to help plan social events, special events, and the Florida Trip.


Remember: If you are a member with a past history of “Rehearsal Attendance Deficit Disorder,” a leadership role is not probably a wise decision!

COLOR GUARD

Audition Information:

  • Saturday, April 4 – 8:30 a.m.-Noon.
  • Meet In Moore Hall Band Room.
  • Wear Comfortable Clothes for Movement, Equipment Work, & Dance. Wear Gym Shoes or Dance Shoes.
  • Girls: Hair Back, No Excessive Make-up or Jewelry.
  • Open to All UNCP Students Female and Male.
  • Prior Color Guard or Dance Training is Helpful.
  • Bring Water (no soda)

 

Drum Line Auditions
                                    
April 14, 2009. 9:00-Noon:

  • Auditions are open to all UNCP students! There will be a place for everyone, even if not on the instrument of your choice.
  • If you play a woodwind or brass instrument as well as a percussion instrument, your best contribution in marching band may be in the horn line!
  • Meets in Moore Hall Band Room 130.
  • Download the audition music
  • Learn the music for the instrument you wish to audition for. (This includes bass drums).
  • Bring your own sticks and mallets if you have them.
  • The audition process will involve all participants drumming as a line and shifting people around until Mr. Wiggins has the line set to his satisfaction.

  • Remember all participants in the drum line should also fill out an intent form for marching band, available on Mr. Spitzer’s office door, Moore Hall 128. The band director, Mr. Marty Spitzer MUST

have your intent form on file! Make sure you fill out all required information completely, accurately, and legibly.
