Theory and Composition
UNC Pembroke offers a four-semester sequence of music theory courses covering music fundamentals through advanced chromatic harmony with an introduction to 20th century compositional techniques. Students enrolled in the BM in Music Education, BA in Music with Elective Studies in Business, and BA in Music programs must complete all four courses; students enrolled in the BM in Musical Theatre program must complete the first three courses. Additional advanced courses in form and analysis, counterpoint, and composition are available to students who successfully complete the four-semester sequence. Entering music students must take a theory placement exam.
