UNcp percussion recital checklist

Follow these directions and you will have a stress-free preparation for your recital.


___ 1) Choose your repertoire. This will be done in conjunction with Mr. Wiggins but the basic requirements are:

2 Works for Solo Marimba in Contrasting Styles
1 Multiple Percussion work
1 Chamber Work (can be a concerto)
1 Timpani Work
1 work must be a commission/premiere (can be a transcription)
Other works at student and teacher discretion

____ 2) Set a recital date. You must clear this date on the music department calendar with Ms. Brenda and with Mr. Wiggins.
____ 3)Set a hearing date. The hearing must be done 3 weeks before the recital. Be sure that anyone accompanying you can be there on the hearing date.
___ 4)Print a Recital Warrant form off the music department website. This is the form that you will use throughout the recital process.
___ 5) Assemble your committee. Ask various faculty members (you must have 3 counting Mr. Wiggins). Check their availability on the date of your hearing AND your recital.
___ 6) Get the signature of the committee members on your recital warrant to verify that they are on your committee.
___ 7) One Month before your recital you should be able to play comfortably the entire program from beginning to end.
___ 8) One month before the recital you should present your program and program notes to Mr. Wiggins for him to approve.
___ 9) At the recital hearing you should have your recital warrant, program and program notes.
___ 10) After you finish the hearing get that portion of the warrant signed by the committee.
___ 11) If you are having a reception reserve the choir room with Dr. Wright.
___ 12) Make arrangements for your program and program notes to be copied. They must be to Ms. Brenda 2 weeks before the recital to be done.
___ 13) Make arrangements for the recital to be recorded.
___ 14) After the recital see your committee one last time to get the form finalized.
