Concentration in Emergency Management: I am pleased to announce that the Curriculum Committee, pending the approval of the Graduate Council, has approved the concentration in Emergency Management. Graduate Council will consider this concentration at their April 19th meeting.


New Special Topics Course for Fall: Tom McCarthy, MPA adjunct, will teach a Special Topics course called: “Labor Relations,” MPMS 512, Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:30. Tom is the chief of the Fayetteville Police Department and is currently teaching MPM 533, “Leadership and Change.” Please announce this schedule addition to your students and your advisees.


MPA Student of the Year: Katherine Bryant, a lieutenant in the Fayetteville Police Department will be the recipient of the “MPA Student of the Year” award. Katherine has a GPA of 4.0 and is scheduled to graduate in May. The “MPA Student of the Year” is awarded annually at the “Business Visions” dinner (May 4, 6:30 in the UC). This award is sponsored by Southeastern Regional Medical Center. Last year’s recipient was Junfeng (Suzie) Wang.

Summer Immersion Classes: Students who are interested in theses classes: Administrative Law (Giannatasio - May) and Strategic Management Seminar (Barbee – July) should be registering now. These classes fill up quickly. Since registration began on Friday, April 2, 22 students have registered for these courses.
