The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Department of Mathematics and Computer Science announces its 31st Annual UNCP Mathematics Contest which will be held March 15, 2012. The Mathematics Contest provides for competition in the areas of Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. We invite you and your students to come and join us March 15th for an exciting and enjoyable day of mathematics on campus. There will be prizes for individual winners and team winners. Begin to make plans now to be with us on March 15th, we are looking forward to you being present that day!
A student may compete in only one area of the competition and may compete as either an individual or as an individual member of a team (see eligibility requirements). A team consists of four students in a subject area and a school may bring up to two teams in each area of competition, but no more than ten (10) students in any one competition category.
An individual score is computed by the number of correct responses on the test taken. A team score is calculated by adding the top three individual scores of the team. If teams tie, the score of the fourth team member is the first level tie-breaker. Individual tie-breakers are established by the weights assigned to each test item.
Please read the contest rules. Registration for the UNCP Mathematics Contest may be accomplished by returning the registration form (PDF) or by writing us (e-mail or snail-mail) and requesting a registration package. Please update any school/sponsor information as you complete the form and enclose a check payable to UNCP Mathematics Contest in the amount of $5.00 (non-refundable) for each student registered. The completed registration form must be returned to our office by March 1, 2012. We suggest you make a copy of the Final Registration Form for your files. Your promptness in mailing and making notifcation of later changes is greatly appreciated. Later changes can be made by e-mail to Sarah Weatherman at: sarah.weatherman@uncp.edu. Please include your own e-mail address with any correspondence. The UNCP Mathematics and Computer Science Department's web site also contains information regarding the UNCP Mathematics Contest.
