Walter J. Pinchbeck
(1904-1977)
The late Walter J. Pinchbeck was employed in the Maintenance Department for 28 years, most of that time as superintendant. He retired in 1969.
A Cree Indian, Pinchbeck was born in Missoula, Montana.
Pinchbeck was Scoutmaster for Troop 327 from 1939-1969, and the Scout Hut near campus bears his name.
He died on April 14, 1977 at the age of 73.
At the time of his death, Pinchbeck had guided more American Indian boys into Scouting than any other American Indian, living or dead. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for Distinguished Service to Boyhood and the Wood Badge. Pinchbeck was named Outstanding Indian Scoutmaster of the U.S. and also named one of the Outstanding Civic Leaders of America.
