ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A specialist in early American literature, Dr. Canada has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Literary Journalism and Contemporary Issues in American English. Whatever the course, students have the opportunity to develop their skills of interpretation, communication, and research as they study literature or language, engage in class discussions, and create and present research projects. A lover of both education and travel, Dr. Canada often combines the two with educational trips to places such as the North Carolina homes of Thomas Wolfe and Carl Sandburg.
Like his teaching, Dr. Canada's scholarship focuses on American literature. After writing and publishing articles on Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Wolfe, the Southern short story, and other topics, he has recently turned to the topic of the Lewis and Clark expedition. His research for a seminar on the expedition has included, among other things, a journey on the Lewis and Clark Trail between St. Louis and the Pacific Ocean. Dr. Canada is also working on a study of the interactions of literature and journalism in American letters.
