Receipt from Cherokee Indian Normal SchoolWould you like to help appreciate and preserve Lumbee history? There are many ways to help the Lumbee River Fund.

The Lumbee River Fund is building a foundation for our community's future. Understanding and appreciating our history and culture means that Indian people can have more control over our future. The Lumbee people have had amazing successes and have survived tremendous obstacles-the future will be no less daunting than the past, and we can gain focus and direction by preserving our past.

The Lumbee River Fund receives its support from individuals who care about the preservation of Lumbee history. We are a volunteer organization and we are building an endowment to take care of our families' photographs, oral histories, documents, and artifacts. Our endowment totals $25,000 thus far, and our goal is $100,000.

Your contribution goes directly to the preservation of our history by funding an archive at UNC Pembroke and by making our public Projects possible. Donations in any amount can be sent to:

Office of Advancement
UNC Pembroke
PO Box 1510
Pembroke, NC 28372

Please contact Glen Burnette, Vice Chancellor for Advancement, at 910.521.6252 for more information on how to donate to UNC Pembroke. You may also contact Malinda Maynor for more information on how your donation will help the Lumbee River Fund.

Our archive requires other sorts of donations as well-the photos, stories and artifacts of Lumbee families and individuals. Please contact Coordinator Malinda Maynor (link to contact page) for information on how to collect and preserve your own family's history. Volunteers are also essential for our work-we have no salaried staff and depend on generous donations of time to accomplish our goals.
