  • The Friends of the Library present "A Fall Faculty Showcase" featuring UNCP faculty introducing their new books and DVD on September 10, 2008 in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library. Speaking are Dr. David Oxendine on Perceived Fairness of  An Ethnic Validation Procedure: Implications for Lumbee Federal Recognition, and Dr. Youngsuk Chae on Politicizing Asian American Literature: towards a Critical Multiculturalism . Remarks by faculty will begin at 10:15 a.m. and will be followed by a reception.

  • The Friends of the Library will present a second “Fall Faculty Showcase” on October 15, 2008.  Presenting will be Dr. Stan Knick introducing Listen to the Drum: A Closer Look at American Indian Powwow Music and Our people: Occaneechi Band of Saponi Nation, and Dr. Rick Crandall discussing New Methods of Competing in the Global Marketplace: Critical Success Factors from Service and Manufacturing.  Remarks by faculty will begin at 10:15 a.m. and will be followed by a reception.

  • On September 30, Rob Christensen will discuss The Paradox of Tar Heel Politics: The Personalities, Elections, and Events that Shaped Modern North Carolina at 7:00 p.m. in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library. A reception and book signing will follow.

  • On October 28, Joanna Catherine Scott will discuss The Road from Chapel Hill in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library at 7:00 p.m.  A reception and book signing opportunity will follow.

  • On February 3, 2009, Spring Council, daughter of Mamma Dip (Mildred Council) will be discussing her mother’s books, Mamma Dip’s Family Cookbook and Mamma Dip’s Kitchen.  The discussion will take place in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library at 7:00 p.m. A reception and book signing opportunity will follow.

  • On April 17, 2009, The Friends of the Library of UNC Pembroke will host the eighth Annual Friends of the Library Benefit Event.  “Southern Humor @ the Library” will feature author Celia Rivenbark.  Ms. Rivenbark has written such books as: Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank, and Bless your Heart, Tramp: and Other Southern Endearments.
    
    
  • On Friday, April 11th The Friends of the Library presented for their annual benefit "A North Carolina Evening @ the Library" featuring Bill Thompson, author of Sweet Tea, Fried Chicken and Lazy Dogs: Reflections on North Carolina Life.
  
  
  • The Friends of the Library present "A Spring Faculty Showcase" featured UNCP faculty introducing their new books on March 12, 2008 in the Main Reading Room of the Mary Livermore Library. Speaking were Dr. Scott Billingsley on It's a New Day: Race and Gender in the Modern Charismatic Movement; Dr. Edwin "Cliff" Mensah on Economics of Technology Adoption: A Simple Approach; and Dr. Jeff Frederick on Stand Up for Alabama: Governor George Wallace. Remarks by faculty were followed by a reception.
  
  
  • On February 19, 2008, Melton McLaurin discussed The Marines of Montford Point: America's First Black Marines in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library. A reception and book signing opportunity followed.
  
  
  • The Friends of the Library sponsored "A Spring Faculty Showcase" featuring UNCP faculty discussing their new books on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in the Main Reading Room of the Mary Livermore Library. Speaking were Dr. Roger Guy on From Diversity to Unity: Southern and Appalachian Migrants in Uptown Chicago, 1945-1970; Dr. Peter Imoro on Cultura e Ideologia en Cuatro Novelas de Manuel Puig; and Dr. Robert Sessengood on Competing Identities: the Athlete and the Gladiator in Early Christianity. Remarks by faculty were followed by a reception.
  
  
  • On February 4, 2008, the Friends of the Library, in collaboration with the Office of Multicultural and Minority Affairs and the Center for Leadership and Service's First Book, co-hosted the 19th National African American Read-In: A Literacy Campaign. The schedule of events included Children's Hour, Book Discussion: Come on People: On the Path from Victims to Victors, and Oral Readings of African American Literature. In celebration of Black History Month, individuals from the University and community read excerpts from African American-authored literature.
  
  
  • On October 23rd, Mike Lassiter discussed Our Vanishing Americana at 7:00 p.m. in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library. A reception and book signing followed.
  
  
  • On September 25th, Nina Marie Martinez discussed her latest book Caramba at 7:00 p.m. in the main reading room of the Mary Livermore Library. A reception and book signing followed.
  
  
  • The UNCP Friends of the Library celebrated its sixth Library Annual Benefit with Cecilia Budd Grimes, author of What It Means To Be Southern, on Friday, April 13, 2007.
  
  
  • The Friends of the Library and the Office of Multicultural and Minority Affairs presented Dr. Tim Tyson, author of Blood Done Sign My Name, Thursday, February 22nd in the Sampson-Livermore Library. Appearing with him was gospel singer Mary D. Williams, who sang some spirituals, including the one for which Dr. Tyson's book is named.
  
  
  • Lisa Huggins Oxendine, author of The Pink Begonia Sisters' Caribbean Retreat, discussed her book at the Robeson County Public Library on January 25.
  
  
  • Emyl Jenkins Sexton, author of books on American traditions, Southern hospitality, appraising antiques, and the recent mystery novel Stealing With Style, presented a program on Southern Christmas traditions November 28 in the Sampson-Livermore Library.
  • Dr. Fran Fuller and Dr. Liliana Wendorff, UNCP faculty authors, discussed their respective new books, Beyond the Voice of Reason and Camacho C'est Moi, at the Sampson-Livermore Library on October 18.
    

  • Scott Hagwood, winner of four U.S. Memory championships, a Grand Master of memory, and author of Memory Power: You Can Develop a Great Memory--America's Grand Master Shows You How, discussed "The Four Factors of Forgetting" at the Sampson-Livermore Library on October 3.
    

  • Dr. Charles Beem presented his new book, The Lioness Roared: The Problems Of Female Rule In English History and Dr. Michael Spivey discussed his new book, M-1 Helmets Of Wwii: A Comprehensive Collector And Research Guide, Wednesday, April 26 in the Library Main Reading Room.
