Federal Documents
Information is published by the Federal Government each year on subjects
which range from agriculture to zoology. The information is produced by
the federal agencies in print and non-
print formats. In order to make this information accessible to the public,
some libraries are designated as Depository Libraries. The Mary Livermore
Library is a selective depository representing District 7 since 1965.
The Library receives approximately 41% of the published federal documents
with much more available online. Patrons may access most of the materials
received since 2000 through BraveCat.

"This Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code)"
State Documents
The North Carolina State Documents Depository System was created by General
Statutes 125-11 effective October 1, 1987. The Library has been a partial
depository since 1988. The Library receives approximately 80% of publications
published by state agencies. Most are on microfiche; however, some are
received in paper and are cataloged and shelved in either the general
or reference collection. Microfiche are cataloged immediately and are
accessible through BraveCat. State publications are available on many
topics and from many state agencies.
The Government Documents area is staffed by two full-time staff persons
and is located on the second floor of the Library. It is open from 8:00
a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. –
5:00 p.m. on Friday, or by phone at 910.775.4242. For
assistance at other times contact the Reference Desk at 910.521.6656.
