At the 2012 London Summer Olympics, Gabby Douglas won gold medals in both the team and individual all-around competitions. Gabby is the first woman of color of any nationality, the first African-American, and only the fourth American woman to become the Individual All-Around Gymnastics Champion.
She is also the first American gymnast to win gold in both the gymnastic individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympic Games.
Join The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, in partnership with the Lumberton Gymnastics Academy, as we host Gabby on the Givens Performing Arts Center stage for an evening of conversation about living a life of gymnastics, the Olympic experience, lessons from the road to being a champion, and her place in history.
This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required and can be obtained from the GPAC Box Office by calling 910.521.6361.
Seating will be general admission with doors opening at 7 pm and the program beginning at 7:30 pm. Questions about event details can be directed to the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership at 910.521.6482.
