Since the birth of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), Sheryl Swoopes has been widely known as one of the nation's most skilled and impressive professional athletes. Frequently referred to as "the female Michael Jordan," she is famous for both her offensive and defensive skills and has earned a reputation for being one of the most accomplished basketball players – male or female - in history. Her many honors and awards include being a three-time gold medal winning Olympian, a four-time WNBA all-star leading vote-getter, three-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, the 2002 WNBA MVP and the first female athlete to receive a shoe endorsement from Nike – the Air Swoopes.
Active off the court in a variety of charitable activities, she established her own charitable foundation, the Sheryl Swoopes Foundation for Youth, and inspires audiences around the country as a motivational speaker with eloquence and energy.
Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for faculty and staff, free for UNCP students with ID and can be purchased from the Givens Performing Arts Center box office.
