Asia Day 2005
UNCP's 1st Annual Asia Day was held on November 8th in the UC Lounge. The event was inspired by UNCP's first ESL class as a way to better the English and knowledge of America culture for these ten students and to introduce the UNCP campus and the Pembroke community to their cultures.

Tables displayed artifacts from China, Korea, Japan, The Philippines, India, and Taiwan.

At another table Chinese cartoons ran, and students to glimpse through comic books and other pop culture materials.

Michael (Taiwan) pointed out notable locations in his home country. For many students this was the first time they had been shown where an Asian country was located on a map.

UNCP's ESL class treated the audience to traditional songs, in their native language.

The students were as excited as the audience was on this day.

Su Chen (China) impressed all with her delicate motions that produced the wonderful words and demonstrated Chinese calligraphy.

Everyone was able to participate in the day's activities. Tamryn Hall (left) and Sharlena Baker made their own Chinese Calligraphy.

Yuko Suenga (Japan) folded paper to demonstrate Japanese Origami.

Erika Patel (India) danced a traditional Indian dance as the audience sat in amazement.

Xi (Vealy) Yang (China) wowed the crowd with his vocal talent.

Many took a break from watching the show to nibble on Chinese food and other ethnic treats.

A fashion show showcased clothing from China, Japan, Korea, The Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore.
