International Student Organization (ISO)

What is ISO?

Elena Lopez Martin (Spain), Washington, D.C.The International Student Organization (ISO) is designed to immerse international students in American culture and society while exposing American students to our international students and their fascinating cultures.

This organization promotes internationalization on campus and in the community while positively representing new and innovative perspectives.
ISO provides opportunities for UNCP and international students to travel within North Carolina and the US to gain a better insight into local and national cultures.

The ISO supports activities for UNCP students to make friends that will last a lifetime while ensuring a lasting legacy is left here on our campus.

Check out the photo gallery of recent ISO events.

Can American Students Join The ISO Too?

Absolutely - and you should! If you are thinking of studying abroad, curious about other cultures, or are simply interested in meeting international students and making new friends, then this is the organization for you! There are weekly meetings, fundraising events, great trips and excursions, plus the opportunity to help plan and organize - and be part of - International Programs' Festival of Cultures in the fall.

What are the benefits of joining ISO?

Building life-long friendships through the ISO.Aside from the great fun that you will have, you will gain invaluable experiences - and skills - that will look terrific on your resume in our increasingly globalized economy. Consider, for example, the following short list:

  • Exposure to, and the opportunity to practice, foreign languages.
  • The demonstration of the ability to be a "team player" in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Organizational skills and responsibilities.
  • Leadership in a highly-diverse setting.
  • Starting an international - life-long - network of friends and future contacts that will serve you well.

Just imagine the advantages of having such experiences and skills not only on your resume, but (most importantly) being able to talk about them during a critical interview. It will surely set you apart from others, make you more memorable and (hopefully) help land you that great job that you really want.

Great things to do!

As a member of ISO you can participate in many activities, including:

  • Weekend trips to Washington, D.C., Charleston, S.C., or Asheville, N.C.
  • Day trips to the beach or lake.
  • Day trips to museums and shopping.
  • Fundraising events.
  • Festival of Cultures.
  • Holiday-theme parties (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day and many more).
How can I join ISO?

Students can join ISO any time during the semester. Please contact the Center for International Programs Office or via e-mail at ip@uncp.edu. The cost to join ISO is only $5.00

ISO leadership contact information is also available from the UNCP Student Organizations page (Link opens in new window).
