It is necessary for you to develop and understanding of the academic content within your degree program and how it will apply to your degree when you return. In order to qualify for financial aid you are required to take a course load equivalent to full time.
The degree to which you can set up your courses prior to your departure will vary greatly among study abroad options. In some instances you may not be able to identify specific courses prior to your arrival at your host university. In these cases, it is vitally important that you work with your department to determine what credit you are required to bring back in order to advance in your degree. The study abroad office will also assist you in understanding the process for obtaining credit from your specific program.
When you submit your application to study abroad you will have an unofficial course of study included with your application. Once you are accepted by your host university you will make sure your advisor and/or department chair and the registrar all sign off on your course work for final approval. To print a copy of the course pre-approval form, please click here.
You may have several meetings with your advisor/department chair and the registrar prior to your departure for your study abroad. It is important to work with all appropriate offices to consider how the credit, if successfully completed, will transfer to your degree.
