mission and profile

Global CitizensIn today’s global economy, the need for college graduates equipped with the skills to succeed has never been greater.  Citizens of all types – whether parents of students, or local or other residents or interested parties – also need to understand the current world, the challenges that it presents, and the benefits to be accrued through informed participation.  Businesses, likewise, must be prepared to compete in – and understand – the complexities of the contemporary world and marketplace.

A dynamic and rapidly-rising star in international education, the International Programs office of UNCP advises the university and others on international matters, directs and carries-out the university’s international education activities, and serves as its main representation abroad.  Consistent with its mandate to internationalize the university community, and to serve as a vibrant resource for the local community and beyond, the office is engaged in a wide range of high-quality services.

The office promotes UNCP abroad, recruits and supports high-quality international degree-seeking and exchange students from all over the world, and administers cooperative degree and non-degree agreements with nearly 100 high-profile partner, and over 200 exchange, institutions abroad.  International Programs also creates, offers, and manages exciting Study Abroad opportunities throughout the globe for UNCP students while offering students and parents alike outstanding support from pre-departure onwards. International Programs additionally oversees UNCP's innovative, and highly-successful, English Language Institute which provides outstanding ESL instruction to our growing population of international students.

As the internationalization support office for UNCP, its faculty, and for in-bound and resident foreign scholars – including its new and innovative Global Leadership Initiative, targeted towards young, fast-rising, foreign educators – International Programs also actively works with industry and community leaders to promote international understanding and skill-sets, coordinates international grant and funding activities in cooperation with the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs, and works closely with the Office for Advancement.
