Tools & Resources

The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System
IPEDS is the core postsecondary education data collection program for the National Center for Education Statistics (U.S. Department of Education). Data are collected from all primary providers of postsecondary education in the country in areas including enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty, staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid. These data are made available on the IPEDS website to students, researchers and others.

Institutional Research Information System (The University of North Carolina)
This site contains a tool to generate your own reports (PDF and EXCEL formats) from fall enrollment files for each school in the University of North Carolina system. You can customize your report by restricting it to certain groups; that is, you can generate a report broken down by characteristics such as academic load, race/ethnicity, gender, residency, and age. Soon, there also will be a tool to generate reports from fall personnel files for staff, faculty, and administrators.

College & University Professional Association for Human Resources
CUPA-HR is the national authority on compensation surveys for higher education HR professionals. The Association publishes four annual salary surveys, plus benefits and benchmarking surveys. The four annual salary surveys are: the Administrative Compensation Survey, the Mid-Level Administrative and Professional Salary Survey, the National Faculty Salary Survey for Four-Year Institutions, and the Community College Faculty Salary Survey. Executive summaries of each of these surveys are available for free on this website.

National Center for Higher Education Management Systems
NCHEMS maintains an Information Center for State Higher Education Policymaking and Analysis. This website is an effort to provide higher education policymakers and analysts with the data and information needed to make sound policy decisions. The website contains comparative data for states and counties in categories of higher education such as student preparation and participation, affordability, student learning, completion, benefits, employment, and finance. By clicking on "Policy Questions," you can find answers to specific questions regarding North Carolina’s system of higher education.
