Other assessment

Collegiate Learning Assessment
The CLA measures critical thinking, analytic reasoning, problem solving, and writing skills in both first-year and senior students to assess value added at UNCP.

ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology
The yearly Educause Center for Applied Research surveys explore student information technology skills and how students use IT on campus. The 2007 survey was sent to a randomly-selected sample of 388 seniors and 402 first-year students at UNCP; response rate was only 5.8% (46 students).  In 2008, the survey was sent to a random sample of 543 seniors and 539 first-year students at UNCP; response rate was 15.1% (170 students).

National Survey of Student Engagement
The NSSE is a way for students to provide information about their undergraduate experiences, including views about the quality of their education and how they spend their time.

Faculty Survey of Student Engagement

The FSSE is designed to measure faculty expectations for and observations of student engagement in educational practices that are known to be empirically linked with high levels of learning and development. This Excel document provides respondent characteristics and item frequencies for faculty at UNCP who took the survey in 2008 as well as comparisons between faculty and student respondents on like items.

The ModernThink Higher Education Insight Survey

ModernThink (a research and consulting firm) partnered again with The Chronicle of Higher Education in 2009 to explore workplace quality at institutions of higher education.  The ModernThink Higher Education Insight Survey statements measure critical organizational dynamics and managerial competencies.  The survey instrument also was designed to provide insight into the quality and health of various relationships that ultimately have direct impact on an institution’s culture and the daily experiences of employees. Sample survey items are available here.

In the spring of 2009, surveys were sent to over 96,000 faculty and staff (administration and professional support staff) nationwide.  Of those, nearly 41,000 responded (a 43% average response rate).  At UNCP, surveys were sent to 400 randomly selected individuals and 132 responded (yielding a survey response rate of 33%).  The survey consisted of 60 statements which, for reporting and analysis purposes, were clustered into 15 dimensions or themes.  These themes are listed and defined in the Overview report linked below.  Also included in the overview are explanations for understanding the survey results reports for UNCP.
