athletic training
The UNC Pembroke Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). CAATE is the agency responsible for accreditation of entry level Athletic Training educational programs. CAATE is sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine(AOSSM), and the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Inc. (NATA).

March is National Athletic Training Month. The theme for this year's celebration is "Sports Safety is a Team Effort." The Athletic Trainer is the captain of the sports medicine team along with the athlete, coach, team physician and the athlete's parents if the athlete is a minor. The Athletic Training Student Association is celebrating National Athletic Training Month by hosting the 2nd Annual Athletic Training Olympics in late March. The events in the Athletic Training Olympics are based on skills the athletic trainer uses daily and will give participants an opportunity to learn more about athletic training. For information about how to participate in the Athletic Training Olympics, please contact ATSA Vice-President Joey Tamburo.
