returning and current students

The Office of Housing and Residence Life is excited to begin our returning student room selection for 2013-2014. This guide will provide important information on changes to our buildings, the room selection process, and provide a schedule of information sessions.

I. Housing Facilities
Pine Hall students residing in double rooms will need to make a new assignment for next year to allow the university to reserve bed space for new freshmen. As in previous years, the double rooms in Pine Hall are designated for new students.  Due to a major renovation plan next year in Belk Hall (installation of the boiler), Belk Hall will not be available for 2013-14.  North Hall will reopen and will be a co-ed hall by same gender floors.  Remember, Cypress Hall and Oak Hall are available as suite style halls, and if you are interested in apartment living with a 9-month agreement, we have the Village Apartments and the Courtyard Apartments.

II. Information/Demonstration Schedule
Staff is available every 30 minutes during the following sessions to demonstrate the room selection process and answer questions:

III. Room Selection Process

Overview
Room selection will proceed in stages. Before starting the room selection process you should discuss housing plans for 2013-14 with your current roommate. If you are not sure about your plans, we encourage you to make an assignment. You can cancel by May 31, 2013, 11:59pm and get a full housing deposit refund. Since a deposit has already been submitted, another deposit is not required. For room selection, use Odyssey HMS through Braveweb. Failure to reclaim your current assignment during the reclaiming periods forfeits any claim you have to the room.

Reclaim
Wednesday, February 20 (starting at 9am) - Sunday, February 24 (ending at 11:59pm)

If you just want to reclaim your own space, participate in this stage.

Step 1:  Complete the 2013-14 Housing Agreement.

Step 2:  Return to the HMS Home Page.
Step 3:  Select “Reclaim My Space Only” and follow on-screen instructions. Remember to click “Submit” before exiting HMS.

Reclaim With New Roommate(s)
Monday, February 25 (starting at 9am) - Friday, March 1 (ending
at 11:59pm)

If you are reclaiming and your current roommate/suitemates are not reclaiming, you have the opportunity to select new roommate/suitemates. The reclaimant must list all new suitemates on his/her housing agreement. The new roommate/suitemates must list only the reclaimant on their housing agreements.

Step 1:  All roommates must complete the 2013-14 Housing Agreement.
Step 2:  Only reclaimant should return to HMS to complete the next step.
Step 3:  The reclaimant should select “Reclaim With New Roommate(s)” and follow on-screen instructions. The reclaimant assigns roommates within the suite. Remember to click “Submit” before exiting HMS.

Open House/Tours for Courtyard Apartments and Village Apartments
Tuesday, March 5 – Thursday, March 7 from 1pm-6pm

Students that physically attend an Open House/Tour will have the opportunity to select their assignment on-site before the next stage opens on March 19.

 New Assignment with Roommate(s)
Tuesday, March 19 (starting at 9am) - Friday, March 22 (ending
at 11:59pm)

If you still need an assignment and have identified a roommate/suitemates, then participate in this stage.

Step 1:  All roommate(s) must list each other in their housing agreements.
Step 2:  Only one person from the list must return to HMS to complete the
next step.
Step 3:  This person should choose “Select a Room” and follow the on-screen instructions to make the assignments.
Remember to click “Submit” before exiting HMS.

Open Room Selection

Monday, March 25 (starting 9am) - Friday, May 31 (ending at 11:59pm)

Students that did not select a room during a previous stage may select a room from the remaining spaces.  Students who selected a room in a previous stage,
but now want to change rooms can do so. If you change rooms, HMS will not move your roommate with you. Your roommate must also logon to HMS during Open Selection and change rooms.

Step 1;  Complete the 2013-2014 Housing Agreement
Step 2:  Return to the HMS homepage.
Step 3:  Choose “Select a Room” and follow the on-screen instructions.
