The Housing Office conducts the Room Assignment Procedure which offers an opportunity for students to be actively involved in requesting the location of their assignment and in the selection of a roommate (s). Some students currently assigned in on-campus housing will have an opportunity to reclaim their space for the next academic year. Current students in Pine Hall double rooms must relocate to allow the university to reserve bed space for new applicants. Established residential students may request a different assignment at the same time a student reclaims or during the “selection by number” procedure (lottery). An established residential student is a student who has completed a Housing Agreement/Application and submitted a housing deposit at least one week prior to the beginning of the reclaiming process. Current residential students do not have to submit another housing deposit.
The Housing Office has designated a percentage of spaces to each academic classification of residential students, based on class size, with remaining spaces for first year freshmen and transfer students. The following is the allotment of spaces for each class:

RECLAIM CURRENT ASSIGNMENT
Students who reclaim their assignment for the next academic year may do so by submitting a "Returning Student Housing Agreement” form. This form is available from a Resident Administrator during a scheduled floor, suite or apartment meeting during the reclaiming period of your building. When submitting the form, a student may include a new roommate if space is becoming available. In Oak Hall, Village Apartments and Pine Hall singles, a student reclaiming may also include new suite or apartment mates if space is becoming available. It is expected that students have determined who will reside in a suite or apartment prior to attending the scheduled meeting. The new roommate(s) or proxy must be present during the meeting to submit their form. Failure to reclaim your current assignment during the scheduled period forfeits any claim you have to this space.
REQUEST NEW ASSIGNMENT
Students that wish to request a change in their assignment for next year may do so at the same time a student reclaims their room (a student requesting a new assignment with the student who is reclaiming, must be present or have a proxy at the scheduled meeting to submit their agreement).
Reclaiming Schedule (See Resident Administrator for specific times)
Single room reclaim in Monday, March 9 - Wednesday, March 11 (Pine and Oak)
Double room reclaim in Oak Thursday, March 12 - Wednesday, March 18
Village Apartments reclaim Thursday, March 19- Wednesday, March 25 Belk, North, West, Wellons Tuesday, March 24 – Wednesday, March 25
Students who do not obtain an assignment during the reclaiming process may draw a number at random for the lottery. The number at random is based on academic classification and determines the order in which a student may request on-campus housing. The number drawing will be held Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 10a.m.-3p.m. in the University Center beside the information booth.
On Monday, March 30, 2009, the students who selected a number will select a room assignment in numerical order based on academic classification. Students who have identified a specific roommate of the same gender may participate together during the designated time. In Oak Hall, Village Apartments and Pine Hall singles, a student may also include new suite and apartment mates if space is available. The roommates, suite or apartment mates may participate using the lowest number and the highest classification status between the roommates. A student who has a specific roommate request or hall preference must participate in the reservation process to request on-campus housing. If a student or proxy is not present or is late at the designated time, they will be placed on a waiting list.
The following schedule has been designated for students to request a new assignment. Students will be called in numerical order and should be in attendance at the starting times listed. A room change may be approved upon the authorization of the Housing Office.
PROXY
A student who cannot attend the scheduled day and time may select a proxy. A proxy is determined by a signed, written note that the student cannot attend and the person identified may request a space on his/her behalf. Please note, if a proxy is not present or is late at the designated time, the student will be placed on a waiting list.
WAITING LIST
Students participating in this procedure and who are unable to secure a reservation will be placed on a waiting list and contacted as space becomes available.
NO RESERVATION REQUESTED
For residential students who do not request an on-campus assignment, an appropriate refund of the housing deposit will be authorized once the student has officially checked out of the residence hall.
INFORMATION SESSIONS
Information sessions for students to ask questions relative to the reservation procedure will be scheduled. The days and times for the sessions will be scheduled in each residential facility by the respective Resident Administrator.
If you have any questions, contact Ms. Carol Hunt, Housing Coordinator, at 910.521.6228 or come by the Office of Housing and Residence Life located in the UC Annex, Suite 207
HOUSING AGREEMENT
A student should understand that by entering into this housing agreement, they are liable for the room and board charges for the full academic year (August - May). A student should not sign any off-campus leases until they have written verification from the UNCP Office of Housing and Residence Life that the UNCP Housing Agreement is cancelled. No cancellations of an agreement will be accepted after July 15, 2009. An enrolled student who fails to pick up a room key is not released from this agreement. After this date, the reasons a student may be released from his/her housing agreement are:
