student testimonials

How do students feel about the Maynor Honors College? They say:

Raisa Jones, Class of 2010 -- Honors college isn't just about having bragging rights and free tickets to plays and sporting events. More than that, it is a chance to grow as a person. Through the many social activities that the Esther G. Maynor Honors College provides, one is able to socialize and learn lessons from students whose aspirations are just as high. Also, since Honors students are invited to attend social events that are held by the International Student Organization, we are also able to learn from people from across the world. If you are invited to join, it would be a shame to pass up the opportunity to make friends with other future leaders, friends that can help keep you focused on your studies and doing your part to try to make a difference on campus and inspire a new class of Honors College students to make the best of the opportunites they are given.

Sarah Day, Class of 2009 -- Be prepared to change your mind. I went into the Honors College as a student who would strive to excel in classes but I came out learning more than just class rank. My mind and opinions changed throughout my experiences in the Honors College and through each adventure, whether it be in class, on trips or studying in the secluded Honors student lounge. You can learn something about yourself everywhere you go. What matters and what doesn't will change, what you like and what you dislike will change, what is important and what will fall off of the "to do list" will vary; but no matter what comes your way, be prepared for change, for it can be a good thing.

Scott Munizza, Class of 2009 -- The Honors College, for me, was a great help starting off at college. I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I am a mathematics major, and I did not really know anyone when the school year was starting. Being in the Honors College changed that. Just about all my classes were with the people in the honors program, so I got to know the people really well. This was beneficial when I had trouble with homework because, chances are, there is someone majoring in the subject that I was having trouble in. Also, one of the classes that was offered, allowed us to go visit a Native American Museum and then an actual site where the Native Americans once lived. Being in the Honors College has greatly impacted my first year at UNCP. I hope it will do the same thing
for you.

Toneysha Amos, Class of 2008 -- Nothing says School Spirit, Determination, Pride in Intellect, and all around Success like the UNCP Honors College. During my short membership in the Honors College on Pembroke's Campus, I have gained a wonderful connection with other students who truly value academia and a college career of excellence instead of mediocrity. In the honors college, I gain the support I need for my academics that I receive from other campus organizations in my social life. I absolutely look forward to my future in such a tremendous college entity!!! The Honors College is Simply Superb!!!!

Rachel Loflin, Class of 2008 -- The Honors College is the reason I chose to attend UNCP, and looking back I realize that was an excellent decision. The benefits of the honors college are numerous. As an incoming freshman, the Honors College provides support through a network of peers, professors, and advisors that help students succeed at levels they would not have thought possible. Its basically like you come in and you already have your own support group built in. In addition, students are eligible for early registration, participate in special interdisciplinary courses, have access to a computer lab reserved for honors students, and are respected by faculty throughout campus. Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of the honors college is the interdisciplinary courses that only honors students can enroll in. These courses offer an opportunity to interact with students who are really interested in learning, will contribute to the class, and make the overall learning experience more productive and meaningful. Overall I would recommend the Honors College at UNCP to any student that wants to get the most out of their college experience.

Gabrielle Patrick, Class of 2009 -- Being around students who are all in college because they love learning has been the greatest aspect of Honors College. In any Honors seminar or class, you are bound to be involved in innumerable debates, in which all sides are knowledgeable about the topic. It is great to have so many intelligent, intellectual students in one place. I love the environment and the social networking available. I definitely recomend UNCP's Honors College.
