financial assistance / Scholarships

Admission to the Maynor Honors College is independent of financial
assistance. However, students accepted to the Maynor Honors College
before February 15 receive priority consideration for UNCP merit
scholarships. The type and amount of these scholarships will be
determined by the office of admissions.

Honors students must also complete a UNCP Merit Scholarship Application available through the Office of Financial Aid.

Other sources of aid includeneed-based grants, federal and state loan programs and endowed specialized and general scholarships. Some financial assistance programs carry a work/service requirement of 8 hours weekly in a university or community placement.

For more information, contact the Office of Financial Aid at 910.521.6255 or fa@uncp.edu.

ESTHER G. MAYNOR SCHOLARSHIP

Born and raised in Robeson County, Esther Graham Maynor was the daughter of Duncan and Dovie Lowry Graham.  She married Therod “Horse” Maynor.  During WWII, Therod Maynor and Floyd Pike became friends and eventually business partners with Pike Electric in Mount Airy, NC.  Pike Electric is the largest electrical contractor in the southeast.  Therod passed away in 1967 and Mrs. Maynor stayed in Mount Airy.

Upon Mrs. Maynor’s death she left in her will that her Trust Estate, minus some specific distributions that she listed, be given to the Trustees of UNC Pembroke for the purpose of establishing the Esther G. Maynor Scholarship.  The scholarship is to be awarded to students attending UNC Pembroke who are accepted to the Maynor Honors College and demonstrate financial need .

Beginning with the entering Freshman Class of Fall 2007, one full scholarship will be awarded to a freshman member of the Maynor Honors College. This scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, room and board, fees, and books. The scholarship is renewable for four years provided that the student remains in good academic standing and meets the requirements for continuation in the Honors College.

Interested students must apply for admission to UNCP through the Office of Admissions, apply for financial aid through the Office of Financial Aid, apply to the Maynor Honors College via our online application, and print, complete, and return the Maynor Scholarship Application.

The deadline for all materials to be submitted to the Maynor Honors College is March 15, 2009.

MAYNOR STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS

Part of the Maynor Gift has been set aside to support undergraduate study abroad opportunities. These scholarships are open to any UNCP student in good standing, though preference will be given to members of the Maynor Honors College.

The scholarships are designed to offset expenses associated with formal study abroad opportunities. The program abroad must result in college credit transferable to UNCP, and students must have a demonstrated financial need. Awards will be made for up to $1000, depending upon the number of awards and available funds.

Because of the current financial crisis, the MHC is not currently accepting applications for the Maynor study abroad scholarship.
