VRML GALLERY |
This page contains a series of crystal structure in VRML
(virtual reality modeling language) format. Click on any of the images
below to bring up the corresponding model. To view these images you will
need a VRML plug-in for your browser.
| The Simple Cubic Structure |
 |
 |
These two models show eight unit cells of
the simple cubic structure. The model on the left is expanded, while the
model on the right is a space-filling model. |
| The Body-Centered Cubic Structure |
 |
 |
These two models show eight unit cells of
the body-centered cubic structure. The body-centered cubic structure may
be visualized as a simple cubic structure with atom occupying the center
of each cube. The model on the right is a space-filling mode. |
| The Face-Centered Cubic Structure |
 |
 |
The face-centered cubic struture may be visualized
as a simple cubic structure with six atoms occupying each of the six faces
of the cube. These two models show eight unit cells of the face-centered
cubic structure. The model on the right is a space-filling model. |
 |
|
Close-packed layers stacked in an ABC
fashion give rise to the face-centered cubic structure. This model shows
the location of the hexagonal layers within a face-centered cubic structure. |
