Activity* Theory
Postulates Central to Activity Theory
1.
The greater the role
loss, the less the participation in activity.
2.
As activity levels
remain high, the greater the availability of role support for role identities
claimed by the older person.
3.
The stability of
role supports insures a stable self-concept.
4.
The more positive
one’s self-concept, the greater the degree of life satisfaction.
*The concept of activity refers to role activity and must include social expectations. Activities such as watching television or taking walks are not the subject of focus within the Activities Theory.
