  • IV. Formative Evaluation
    A. Explain what a “formative evaluation” is and state that you are going to present one.
    B. Using computer software, construct a flowchart (must double click to get back) what illustrates the process by which students move from matriculation to graduation within the Social Work Department.  The flowchart must appear as a “figure” and must be discussed within the text (see C).
    C. Within about 3 to 5 paragraphs, describe The Process found in the flowchart you designed.  At the end of your paragraph, address the following issues:
    1. What are the Strengths and Weaknesses of the process that students face?  Express YOUR opinion!
    2. As part of an interview with a senior in field placement, a SWK faculty member, (students will be assigned a faculty member and a senior) and a field instructor, assess their opinion as to the strengths and weaknesses of the process students face in making their way through the Social Work Department.  Due to the fact that some seniors, faculty and field instructors are overwhelmed with interviews, students must obtain permission from Professor Marson prior to the actual interview.
    3. Include your interview findings in the paper.
     D. What constitutes being "Field Ready"?  As part of your interviews with a student, ask if the assignments, prerequisites, and the Field Selection Protocol prepared them for the field experience.  Check the prerequisites and other important information in the The Student Social Work Handbook.
     E. Experiment with the Field Selection Protocol.  Identify strengths and weaknesses of it.
     F. The Council on Social Work Education sets standards for the Field Work Component.  READ these standards.  Do YOU think that the Field Work Program is in compliance with the Standards?   Show a senior in field placement and a field instructor  the CSWE Field Work Standards.  The form that CSWE Site Visitors use can be found in the library or by clicking here SELF STUDY REVIEW FORM (this form is presented on MS Word).
