My current research projects revolve around the study of biochar (natural charcoal) as a soil amendment. Biochar is a hot new area of research because it can improve soil quality, sequester carbon (mitigating global warming) and produce energy all at the same time! There are many aspects of biochar to be explored depending upon student interests. I have 2 students working on projects to determine insect and plant responses to biochar soil amendments. Student opportunities: Fall/Spring (2) Summer (TBD)
