Book Reviews and Book Summaries by Eric B. Dent

  • Learning as a Way of Being by Peter B. Vaill (1996). Joins the chorus of others who are claiming that learning is the critical skill for successful managers and employees in today's organizations. The book provides a model for how that learning could occur. Subsequent chapters then apply the model to topics such as leadership and spirituality. Published in the Journal of Organizational Change Management, 1997, vol. 10, no. 4

  • Polarity Management by Barry Johnson (1992). Claims that today's "problems" are really not problems to be solved but polarities to be managed. If we don't manage them correctly, we will vacillate between the poles of, for example, innovation and tradition, building up factions which favor each. Published in the Channel Marker [OD Network publication]. August, 1997. Vol. 11, No. 7, pps. 12-13.

  • The Unshackled Organization by Jeffrey Goldstein (1994), published in Journal of Organizational Change Management, 1996
